Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore trouble shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth. Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side. (Psalm 71:20-21)
Comfort implies relief from suffering and tenderness towards a person. Jesus came to relieve man from all sufferings. The comfort of God is the solution to the troubles of life. For every kind of trouble, there is a solution of comfort in God. “The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them” (Psalms 34:7). Remove your eyes from any problem you are facing, and focus your attention on God the giver of comfort.
Our text today says “… Thou shalt … comfort me on every side”. Receive all round comfort from God now in Jesus name.
How comfort can be received from God:
Passionate prayers: “Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah” (Psalm 81:7). Passionate prayers bring speedy comfort.
Pursuit in devotion. “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, … For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock” (Psalm 27:4-5). Devotion and spirituality brings a harvest of comfort in the day of trouble.
Persuaded faith and confidence in the help of God. “… for I know I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day” (2 Timothy 1:12). Faith and confidence in God provokes the release of the comfort from God.
Profuse praise. “Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?” (Exodus 15:11). Radical praise provokes fearful wonder. Beloved, how you relate with God, determines how you will enjoy his comfort in life. Turn to God, the giver of comfort and he will give you comfort on every side. Receive your comfort now in Jesus name. Prayer focus: Lord! I receive comfort now by you word in Jesus name.
