Acts 9:6, 17 KJV
“And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.”
God has your word somewhere. There is a channel through which God may want to reveal His mind to you per time. And this was the case with Paul; soon after he was knocked down by the light of God on his way to Damascus, he asked two all important questions. He asked "Lord who are you"? And after that he asked the next one "what do you want me to do"? I thought God would just let him know what He wanted Him to do, but no. God rather told Annanias about Paul and what He wanted him to do, and then asked Paul to go into the city and receive instructions.
Annanias was the one that God gave the blueprint of Saul's destiny and ministry. “But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.” (Acts 9:15-16 KJV)
Now I believe that God chose to deal with Paul in this way for the following reasons:
a) To let him know that He (God) speaks diversely, and that He doesn't always have to say things to him directly. Within three days, God taught Paul about two channels of His voice; direct communication and human vessels. Just make sure that the vessel is a disciple, like Annanias.
b) Paul was just a new convert, and probably needed to ask questions. So the choice of Annanias was made by God so Paul could relate with someone in terms of counsel concerning the details of his destiny.
c) God needed to teach him about spiritual authority. People always respect people who teach them the word of God; as such Paul needed to be baptized into this reality from the word "go".
d) God also taught Paul the art of discernment. He must have discerned that Annanias was of God in his spirit, having not met him before. So he learnt early enough to discern whether a person was of God or not.
