THE BATTLE OF FOCUS-II
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.(Hebrews 12:2-4 KJV)
There is a battle that we do not seem to be familiar with, and that is the battle of focus. The inability to master the battle of focus has been the reason behind so many failures both of individual lives and organizations.
If you have said you will read five chapters of the bible this year the enemy will so fight and distract you to the point where reading one chapter will be such a huge task in your life. People who determined to pray for two hours begin to struggle with thirty minutes, while those who have vowed to be sin free begin to see old sins resurface in their lives from nowhere; why? The reason is, the day you determined to overcome that sin you actually drew a battle line. The day you determined to become more spiritual by increasing your spiritual activities you invited the devils of carnality to your life. It is a battle you must fight or remain the same.
I have known and heard of people who never desire to do more than what they are doing, they never want to grow or become better, all because such decisions seem to attract too many things into their lives. But that is a fight they have to be willing to fight or they will never amount to anything in life.
Here are a few more distractions you must fight to maintain focus:
i. The distraction of lowering your standards because of people who appear to be doing better without such high standards.
Vehemently resist the temptation to be like other people who don't have the quality of values and standards that you have. Some successful people will not be successful for very long, so be focused and true to who you really are.
ii. The distractions of impatience.
One major quality that we see of Jesus was that He was able to endure the cross till He got to His goal. That virtue is called patience. Any real successful person has mastered the art and act of patience very well or you wouldn't know or hear of them. They would have given up long ago. Ask God to help you develop the grace to stick to it till the end. One author called "stick-to-it-ability".
- It is a long distance race and not a sprint, be prepared for the long haul and set your mind accordingly and you will celebrate by the end of this year in Jesus Name.
Assignment.
i. Begin to look for role models with standards as high as yours and keep them on your radar.
ii. Avoid people who try to make you feel bad for having great goals and high moral values.
iii. Ask God for the grace to successfully fight the battles around your next level.
Prayer.
-Lord I make you my ultimate standard today in Jesus Name.
-I refuse to be swayed by any one for anything less in Jesus Name.
-I receive a fighting spirit today in Jesus Name.
