Although most children did not know the right pronunciation, it was referred to as ‘rubberlin’ by most.
3. The reign of ‘Okin biscuits’ Money saved then by children was either spent buying ‘coaster’ or ‘shortcake’ biscuits. This was an amazing way of getting pampered; if you did not eat these biscuits while growing up in Nigeria, then you should not call some people by their first names.
4. Regular birthday wear Most of the birthday pictures taken back then would give you more hints about growing up in Nigeria. Celebrants were made to wear ‘aso-oke’ or ‘ready-made.’ And in cases where a birthday cake was not made, parents had cabin biscuits and sword sweet poured on a large tray.
5. The joy of drinking ‘lolly’ Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Most children enjoyed taking colored drinks called ‘lolly’ back then. It is interesting to know that we now have all sorts of assorted drinks children now take at parties. While technology might have made life easier for children of this generation, we also had fun even in our own time.
6. Ali and Simbi days The main book read in those days were about Ali and Simbi. Most people are familiar with these characters. Several memes have been made by people about Simbi being a woman already. But memories of those two characters would always stick.

Some poems became songs which children sang everywhere and took with them even after that phase. Some of the books include; ‘Because I obeyed my parents’, ‘Eze goes to school’, Without a silver spoon’ and many others.
