Psalms 37:23 NKJV
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way.”
There is what to do in order to obtain the direction that God gives. It is not just enough to desire to be led by God, but to know how to position yourself for that leading. God leads us by His Spirit and His spirit is a very sensitive person, and will not struggle or fight with you for long, according to Genesis 6:3. Ephesians 4:30 also admonishes us not to grieve the Holy Spirit of God. When you are a person who is constantly inclined to wrong and to your own ways, it becomes very hard for the Holy Spirit to lead and direct you.
Two things must be in place before the Holy Spirit can lead and order your steps:
i. He orders the steps of good people.
It may interest you to see how some other translation puts it. “The LORD grants success to the one whose behavior he finds commendable.” (NET)
A good man or person is someone with a high quality character, someone with a favourable disposition; someone who seeks the good of others and someone who always frowns at evil and pursues a good cause. This kind of person will attract the Holy Spirit to order his steps. God wants to do good in this world, and He will be willing to work with good people.
ii. He orders the steps of those who delight in His ways.
You can't be a man of your own ways and expect God to lead you. You must be a person whose will is lost in the will of God. God's ways are in His word, His thoughts and His plans are contained in His word-Isaiah 55:9. So a man of the word is a man who delights in God’s ways. Especially the person who goes all out to practice the word of God as is written. This is one of the many ways to be led by God.
Assignment/Prayer
-Lord take away all forms of negative character from my life, kill every tendency that portrays me as bad in Jesus Name.
-Please Lord fill me with the fruit of the Spirit and those character traits that attract you to a man's life in Jesus Name.
-Give me a heart for your word that I may be delighted in and by your ways in Jesus Name.
