(Hostile Environment)
1Samuel 18:5, 14-15, 30 KJV
“And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.
And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the Lord was with him. Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.
Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.”
If you are a good student of the word, you will realize that the bible has wisdom for everything beneficial to us. And the work place is a very important aspect of everyone's life. After our homes and churches, the work place is one place where people spend most of their time. In fact, I dare say that people spend more time at work than anywhere else, including their homes. It is therefore important to grab some wisdom for the work place, if we are to live fulfilled lives.
It is not every work place that will be nice, great and friendly. Some are hostile, as in the word hostile, and the hostility does not mean that there is no wisdom for it. David was in a very hostile work environment. And David did just one thing to survive it, and that was wisdom. He behaved himself wisely. I think that your wisdom level should kick in and be at its best when the environment is hostile, and when your boss does not particularly like you. Now see what wise behaviour did for David.
i. When he behaved himself wisely in the first instance, he was accepted in all the eyes of the people. If people are not accepting you as their leader at work, you may need to step up your wisdom level.
ii. Secondly, he behaved himself wisely, and the Lord was with him. God's presence is stronger in your life when you do things wisely. Wise behaviour would glorify God, and he would honour your wise disposition with His presence.
iii. Thirdly, David behaved himself wisely and Saul became afraid of him. Your rival could begin to fear you when they see your wise behaviour. It is amazing to know that your wisdom could terrify your enemies.
iv. Then David behaved himself more wisely, and his name was now much talked about. He became a highly esteemed personnel of the palace area from that time. And when it was time to be king, it wasn't a challenge for the whole palace staff to accept.
Receive the wisdom of God in Jesus Name.
